Bravado by Andy Zimmerman Back to browse title
He loved women
but there was no woman
strong enough
to hold him
dressed as he
was in a purple check shirt
with a collar like an airplane
he dreamed
he was a big shot
from Des Moines who could
wander in and out the homes
of tragic spinsters without
regard for their disappointment.
then
his pickup spitting oil
he made a killing in a junkyard
his whore bust her strap
so he swept her off to Macey’s
a bus flipped a Hedgehog
so he founded a Sanctuary
an old man was short changed
so he sang him Bing Crosby
until it was tea-time
all this
in the space of an afternoon
then he heard the kids were crying
so he headed home
