| All The Reasons I Can Think Of To Keep Looking by Gregory O'Neil |
 |
We search for the source of the light.
Perhaps a ship
that keeps sailing. It cannot be visited but, its memory
is a ballast that settles deep inside. Until we die,
this will be a single step, like the torn ticket
we save. If we could hold it in our hands,
we might consider its usefulness, but too often,
like old friends, we lose track of how grateful
we are to just have become familiar.
All the lessons of the light give a fortiori to our search.
If we ever found hallowed ground, moving on would never
again have anything to offer us. Where the grass is
always greener needs to become so dim, it blends
with the gray into the blue and black of that night.
When there’s no chance of being misunderstood,
the light will shine again.
