Here’s the Bomb by William Watkin Back to browse title
calm morning the nearly of lunchtime
is the hum of an air conditioner
the backwash trill of lights, computer, inaction
like I said, clam mourning

when the order comes
wrapped in paper
we will not ignore it
wrapped in flesh (this is not coincidence)

see-so how the sky between buildings
distrusts us but has no option but
to go ahead with us across
the plaza of hornets
the causeway of wasps
on through bee-hedgerow
you emerge on mosquito plain, milwaukee wisc.
there is no tale in this moment’s irritation with its endless passing
it may sting the eyes but tears are a useful
smokescreen of folding roses
vinegar, brown paper and an anti-histamine will suffice

ip dip dog shit
we are all it
which is nice but fair

here’s the bomb, I open an internal memo from my boss
cc.ed to the sadists it says
“soon you will eat
ominously
